Swing Dance Club at IU provides opportunities for all interested students and community members to learn, practice, and enjoy swing dancing. We focus on building community and are dedicated to crafting an excellent social experience. We generally concentrate on Lindy Hop, Charleston, Blues, and St. Louis Shag. Depending on the interest of our members, we dabble in other dance styles, including the Collegiate Shag, Balboa, and more!
Swing Dance Club at IU enjoys both historical and modern partner dancing. We offer weekly lesson tracks for beginner and intermediate dancers each semester, while providing additional social dance opportunities and special events. No partner is needed to join or learn!
Currently, we meet almost every Monday in the IMU Georgian Room

Every fall semester, Swing Dance at Indiana University host our Harvest Moon Ball where we commemorate the amateur ballroom competition of the same name that showcased Black American jazz and lindy hop dancers starting all the way back in 1935! It is such a milestone moment for Swing Dance as many dancers like Frankie Manning, Norma Miller, and Leon James won this event which jumpstarted their dance careers. Our event has live music, a beginner lesson, and plenty of social dancing to teach people about such an important event in Black and Dance history!
Every spring semester, Swing Dance at Indiana University host our Big Red event. To expand our dancing skills and to meet fellow dancers from other groups, we invite various instructors over a course of a weekend to share their knowledge and expertise in various dance styles including lindy hop, balboa, and shag! Further in the evenings there are social dance events with live music!
